MOOD KLUDGES :-) ©1996 A.Stansfield
What is Mood Kludges?
Well the answer to that question is quite simple really. Kludges are those
funny bits of text at the top and bottom of you message (seen when show
Kludges is on) and really I myself don't know how they could be useful to us,
well now they are. What this program does is, once you have written a message
it will let you add in some text to describe your mood at that moment in time.
Then the moods expressed can be read by the people reading the message if they
have MoodKludges installed.
What is required?
An Amiga (of course), Spot (any version I think) registered and the
Tritonrexx.library and the Triton.library (not included).
About this Script and its writer
Well I'm a 17 year old student at H.M Prisons Cranleigh, or Cranleigh school
to those who don't go there. This is my first script for Spot and is the first
time I've even looked at ARexx so if you don't like this script please put me
down lightly, but if you don't like it, or maybe you actually do like it or
find any bugs or have any suggestions please let me know, you can mail me at
the address below. Well the reason I wrote this script is because I found no
use for kludges except for Steve Pearson's brilliant script "HyperSpot" (Go
out and buy it today) which without I would have never got anywhere with this.
Also I wanted a way to put my mood into my message and felt that "UserInfo"
wasn't quite right for me. This is also an experiment in which I have tried
to teach myself ARexx.
So, tell me, how does it work?
Well firstly write you message and address it as normal. Then have then
message in the message window and execute the "MoodKludges.Spot" script. It
will load up a window with a button in and when you wish to put a Kludge into
a message you simply press the button while the message is on screen. You will
be asked for your mood today and you would enter something along the lines of
"feelin' groovy" or "happy at last !!!!". You will then be asked if you wish
to delete the original message. What the script does is in the kludges enter
the kludge "MOOD: feelin' groovy" or "MOOD: happy at last!!!!". Then that bit
is all done.
Now to read the kludges all you need to do is be. The script will run in the
background searching the message that is on screen at the time, for the kludge
beginning "MOOD:". When it finds such a kludge it will read the bit after the
"MOOD:" and print up a message giving the name of the sender and saying how
they are feeling, e.g. "Alex Stansfield is feelin' groovy" or "Alex Stansfield
is happy at last!!!!". And that's it.
BTW the kludge can't be read if you have put one on unless the message has
been exported, so if you are doing a test, either export the message and
reimport it, or send me you message with the kludge and I'll tell you what it
said.
Bugs
Well I had big problems with the reader script and it is a bit dodgy, I
couldn't get it to exit when you exited Spot so it would give up errors, it
worked though but I hate errors. In the end I combined the two scripts,
originally there was a Writer and Reader, into one script and added in the
Button facility, that way it would quit with no problems.
If you find any problems please let me know.
What is Included?
Well you should get 3 files, a fido packet, the script and this doc. Put the
fido packet into you inbound directory and do an import. The messages should
go to an area called TEST, but they might end up in bad I don't know. Anyway
run the script and browse the messages, you should get the Mood messages
comming up.
Disclaimer
This script shouldn't wipe your computer unless you name is Paul Avery and
my apologies in advance to anyone of the name Paul Avery who doesn't go to
Cranleigh School and have problems with there computer after running this
script.
Use this script at you own risk.
To do
If anyone actually likes it I'll put in some extras that I've thought about
and that Steve Pearson suggested. But please let me know if you have any
decent ideas.
Ideas:-
Config file, so that you can assign various things to moods (Steve's
idea)
Option so that it will only read the Moods of the messages that are being
read for the first time this is only really needed if a miricle happens and
everyone starts to use it, otherwise you might as well see all the old Kludges
again :-)
-+- This space could be your idea, so mail me -+-
Thanks to
A lot of people who have written Spot scripts because thanks to them I
managed to teach myself ARexx, sort of. Most of all to Steve Pearson who gave
me some hints and for HyperSpot, without which I would have been lost and also
for his Spot Button Bank which gave me the idea for putting in the Button.
Thanks to Nico Francois for this amazing program and thanks in advance to
the person who takes over Spot development in the future.
Thanks to J for being one of my best mates even if he does sit in my study
all day playing extreme racing when I'm trying to work and to Flea (that's not
her real name :-) ) for being there for me the whole time.
No thanks to Paul Avery for being the biggest w&n£er there is.
Send Me Mail
Please let me know what you think and any bugs or probs or ideas you have,
cheers,
